Reflecting on #WeAreSilent

Last week we were silent for the day to support the Malala Fund and the Free the Children organization. We made signs to wear and wore arm bands to help us remember not to talk.

Here are some of our thoughts about the day:

The classroom was very very silent. - Aidan

It was really really really hard not to talk. - Noah

I feel bad for students who don't have a voice - Jordyn

I'm glad we did #wearesilent because I learned how girls in other countries might feel - Kirstin

I realized how many rights we have. - Taylor

I held in what I had to say and I let loose once I exited the school. - Brayden

We did it only for one day and if I think about it for 12 years it would be hard. - Angelo

I feel bad for all kids who don't have an education or rights. - Conar

We are silent!

Tomorrow Thursday April 17, 2014 we are participating in 'We areSilent' campaign and are taking a vow of silence! We are doing this to raise awareness for girls who don't have the right to go to school and also for kids who don't have the courage to speak out. We are not going to speak at school for the whole day, even at recess. All the grade 4/5's are joining to support Malala, who survived a gunshot to her head because she stood up for girls' right to go to school.

Follow us on Twitter @mrsmackaysclass as we participate in #WeAreSilent tomorrow.
